Hotmail, 15 years later

Today it is one of the most popular messaging services in Colombia, with just over 13 million users. Microsoft is celebrating. These days it celebrates, with more than 335 million active accounts, 15 years of existence of its free web-based email service: Hotmail. Although Hotmail was born on July 4, 1996, it became popular at the end of 1997; year in which Microsoft bought it to integrate it with the service of web-based calendars. Today, with 'scarce' 15 years of life, it can boast of extensive experience in the world of technology: 8 billion messages sent daily, 25 billion stored contacts, 1.5 billion Microsoft Office documents and more than one billion shared photos per month. This service, that in the beginning it offered free email with a storage limit of 2MB, which was later extended to 2G, 5G and up to 10GB, nowadays it is unlimited. In fact, thanks to its integration with SkyDrive it currently offers cloud storage services. "Hotmail started as an email where a few of

us sent messages, and over the years it has been transformed into a platform called Live; where not only do I have an email, but also the possibility of keeping people connected and allowing them to integrate messages with photographs, "said José Antonio Barraquer, product manager for Windows Microsoft Colombia. Some of the novelties that stand out in the new version of Hotmail are the integration of services like You Tube, which allows you to play videos directly in the mail interface; the inclusion of Facebook, which allows users to access chat from this popular social network or the addition of SkyDrive, which offers services in the cloud. According to figures provided by Microsoft, this popular messaging service has more than 120 million accounts in Latin America and 13.8 million users in Colombia. Hotmail since 1996 has accompanied the evolution of the digital world. Thanks to their contribution in the world of new technologies, nowadays people have changed their way of communicating and organizing their daily activities. Undoubtedly, during these years Hotmail has not stopped improving and will continue in the minds and hearts of many Internet users, who witnessed its first years of existence and contributed to its growth.
